The GP Econoline Series is Powervolt Group’s cost-optimised industrial control transformer line – built for OEMs and panel builders who need 300, 750, or 1500 VA capacity without paying for the full 14-step flexibility of the GP Standard Series.

Econoline shares the same UL/cUL 5085-2 listing, IEC touch-proof terminals, and 10-year warranty as Standard – at a lower cost per unit for volume OEM applications.

The series spans 3 VA ratings – 300 VA, 750 VA, and 1500 VA – each available across multiple voltage groups, for a total of 33 part numbers

Every unit is manufactured and 100% tested in Addison, Illinois, USA, carries UL File E47299, and is CE marked, RoHS, and REACH compliant.

What Defines the Econoline Series

The GP Econoline Series is built on the same electrical platform as GP Standard, but offered only in three VA ratings – 300, 750, and 1500 VA – across the full range of Powervolt voltage groups.

This narrower VA lineup allows Powervolt to manufacture Econoline units at higher volume and lower unit cost.

  • VA range: 300, 750, and 1500 VA only (3 fixed ratings)
  • Primary voltage: 120–600 V across 17 voltage groups
  • Secondary voltage: 24–240 V, group-dependent
  • Insulation class: Class F (155°C), selected to meet the requirements of most industrial control applications while maintaining cost efficiency.
  • Frequency: 50/60 Hz
  • Certifications: UL/cUL 5085-2 Listed (UL File E47299), CE marked, RoHS, REACH
  • Standards: Exceeds NEMA ST-1, ANSI, NMBTA, JIC, IEC
  • Terminals: IEC touch-proof (finger-safe)
  • Construction: Copper coils, heavy-gauge steel mounting plate, high inrush current capability
  • Warranty: 10 years — Powervolt Group, Addison, Illinois, USA
  • Part numbering: GP[VA]-[Group]00.MXX — the .MXX suffix distinguishes Econoline from Standard Series part numbers

Need a VA rating below 300, or between the Econoline steps? See the GP Standard A00 Series Guide for the full 14-step range from 25 VA to 2000 VA, or the pillar guide for the complete three-series comparison.

Econoline vs A00 Standard — when to choose whichGP Econoline is the right choice when your VA requirement is exactly 300, 750, or 1500 VA and budget is the primary driver. If your load calculation lands between these steps, or your project needs the widest voltage-group selection, specify the GP Standard Series instead.

Choosing the Right Econoline VA Rating

Because Econoline is only offered at 300, 750, and 1500 VA, sizing is simpler than for the 14-step Standard Series – but the underlying methodology is identical.

Step 1 – List all secondary loads

Catalogue every device the transformer will power: contactor coils, relay coils, PLC power supply, I/O modules, solenoid valves, HMI panels, and pilot lights. Record sealed (steady-state) VA and inrush VA for each from the device datasheet.

Step 2 – Calculate worst-case simultaneous inrush

Sum the sealed VA of all loads plus the inrush VA of all loads that energise simultaneously at start-up (Powervolt Method B – the safer, slightly oversized approach).

Step 3 – Round up to 300, 750, or 1500 VA

Select the next Econoline step above your calculated total. If your demand is below 300 VA, or falls in one of the intermediate steps the GP Standard Series offers (100, 150, 200, 250, or 500 VA), specify GP Standard instead for a closer fit.

⚠️  Three steps means less precision – check your fit carefullyUnlike the GP Standard Series’ 14 VA steps, Econoline jumps from 300 to 750 to 1500 VA. A load that calculates to 400 VA must round up to 750 VA — a 47% oversizing margin. If precise sizing matters, compare against the GP Standard A00 Series, which offers 300, 350, and 500 VA steps in between.

Econoline Series Installation Notes

Installation follows the same procedure as the GP Standard Series. Full NEC code references, grounding requirements, and the first-energisation safety check are covered in Sections 6 and 7 of the Industrial Control Transformers pillar guide.

  1. Mount on a horizontal surface using the heavy-gauge steel mounting plate
  2. Connect the primary tap terminal matching your supply voltage for the selected voltage group
  3. Install slow-blow primary fuses at 200% of rated primary current; optional fuse block kits available on request
  4. Ground the secondary neutral terminal to the panel ground bus per NEC 250.186
  5. Install secondary control-circuit fuses at 200% of rated secondary current per NEC Articles 430 and 725
  6. Allow adequate clearance for natural convection — refer to Class F (155 °C) thermal limits if your group uses Class F insulation

GP Econoline Series – FAQ

Why does Econoline only come in 3 VA ratings?

Manufacturing only 300, 750, and 1500 VA allows Powervolt Group to run higher production volumes per SKU, lowering unit cost. The GP Standard Series covers the same voltage groups with 14 intermediate VA steps for applications needing a closer match.

Does Econoline carry the same warranty as GP Standard?

Yes – both series carry Powervolt Group’s 10-year warranty and the same UL/cUL 5085-2 listing (File E47299).

What does the .MXX suffix mean in the part number?

The .MXX suffix in part numbers like GP1500-A00.MXX identifies the Econoline mounting/configuration variant, distinguishing it from the equivalent GP Standard Series part number (GP1500-A00 without the suffix).

Can I get a custom VA rating between 300 and 1500?

Powervolt Group’s Custom Design Form allows you to request a non-standard VA rating. Alternatively, the GP Standard Series already covers 100, 150, 200, 250, and 500 VA in the same voltage groups.
